What Not to Do When Writing Articles

Writing an article or other content for websites should provide visitors with something they need or want. It doesn't matter whether the author has years of writing experience or is slapping articles together for website content, there are certain mistakes that should never be made. Most of these mistakes only take a minute to ensure that they never make it to the reader. After all these mistakes can cost traffic, business and cause them to find a more professionally written site.

Choosing topics or subjects that are relevant to the theme of the site is the first way to gain some respect in the online community. Having topics that are off topic will cause the visitor to feel that they are being led on a wild goose chase. Provide the information that you promise without leading them through irrelevant content. After writing the article, the author should proofread the article. This is the most important step of writing, and 90% of authors skim their work, but never proof it fully. Running spell check and grammar is important also, but it should not be the only type of proofing that is completed. After all the spell check tool can not tell the difference between writing and righting, their and there and so on.

Read the article out loud to ensure that the wording flows and makes sense. Sometimes authors will read the content and skim over mistakes because they know what they meant to type, but it is actually a mistake. It never hurts to read over it a couple of times to ensure a professional appearance. After all it only takes the visitor a minute to find a mistake and a life time for you to live it down.
