This poem was inspired by my HART Dance experience on Saturday, December 20th. When I ventured out Saturday morning I did not realize I was in for a real treat. The experience starts with an orientation which included a brief explanation of the day and short introductions of the participants.
Next, we moved to a large room (by the way the center is an earthy and warmly decorated facility) and lied down on our sleeping bags with our sacred scarf covering our eyes. Beautiful music is piped in and we began deep breathing while resting on our sleeping bags. I found the deep breathing to be very therapeutic and cleansing. We did this for about an hour before moving to the next phase.
After breathing we stood up and started to dance with our blindfolds on. Jane and Keith (the facilitators) kept everyone safe from any accidents. The blindfold allowed me to eventually lower my guard and just let my body really move to the music. To me it was so joyous to dance uninhibited, I felt very happy.
After dancing we removed our sacred scarves and moved to the art tables. The next stage was to express your experience with art. I'm not much artist, my passion is words. But some of the other participants had some wonderful mandalas.
After lunch, we rounded out the HART dance with individual explanations of our personal experiences while seated together in a circle.
This poem barely expresses the joy and happiness I felt during the experience, everyone attending went through a wide range of emotions. I would gladly attend another HART dance session in a heartbeat.
The Heart of Dance
Out of the quiet rises a stirring
A soft, subtle desire to sway
As the body takes a deep breath in
The mind tries to clear it's chatter away
Music goes on and on,
pounding each cell to it's very core
The lovely one keeps breathing in and out
With this, joy slowly washes ashore
Joy finally takes over as ego releases it's hold
The body accepts the idea of motion and eagerly starts to dance
Drums, harps and flutes seduce the hips into a torrid romance
All climaxing together in a crescendo of breath and emotion
The heart is left wide open
Allowing a sea of love to wash any fears away
In the mansion of mind the lovely one creates room,
for the joy of this experience to stay
